Laura Linney becomes a mother at 49
Laura Linney has taken on a new surprising role, playing mum for the first time.

Representatives for The Big C actress confirmed the news that Linney, 49, welcomed a baby boy on January 8.

“Mother and baby are happy and healthy,” the spokesperson for the beautiful blonde told reporters.

The news came as a surprise to entertainment insiders, with the new mum never publicly announcing  that she was expecting – a rare example of privacy amongst expectant celebrities.

It seems the actress had been lying low after her appearance at Women in Film’s 2013 crystal Lucy Awards in June. Alarm bells should have rung after the actress failed to turn up to accept her fourth Emmy for best actress for the Showtime;s The Big C in Los Angeles in September.

Linney and her husband, real estate agent Marc Shauer, have named their son Bennett Armistead Schauer. The couple were married in 2009 after  a long three-year engagement.

The unusual middle name is most likely in homage to author Armistead Maupin. The Emmy-award winning actress starred in a miniseries based on the writer’s Tales of the City novels and is said to be a big fan of the author.

Linney, who after five years divorced from her first husband David Adkin in 2000, never commented on her personal life. She did however mention that she hoped she would one day have children.

We are very glad that wish came true for the actress.
