Lady Gaga is set to make her return to the big screen in the near future. The award-winning singer-songwriter-actress has reportedly scooped the leading role in director Ridley Scott’s upcoming film about the assassination of Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci.
The A Star is Born actress will star as Patricia Reggiani, the wife of the murdered Gucci heir. Based on Sara Gay Forden’s book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour and Greed, the movie will tell the scandalous tale of the murder and the family dynasty.
In 1985, Maurizio left Reggiani for a younger woman after 12 years of marriage. Ten years later, Maurizio was shot dead by a hitman as he arrived at his Milan office. It wasn’t until 1997 that Reggiani was arrested and then later convicted as the mastermind behind her ex-husband’s murder. Reggiani, who was called Vedova Nera, the Black Widow, by the Italian press, served 18 years in prison before her release in 2016.
Reggiani has maintained her innocence and in 2016 after her release, she told The Guardian: “I think I am a very strong person because I survived all these years in captivity. I slept a lot. I took care of my plants. I looked after Bambi, my pet ferret.”
