Koko goes crazy for kittens
Gorilla, famed for sign language abilities, adopts kittens to celebrate her 44th birthday

Koko, the gorilla who is famed for being able to decipher over 2,000 words of the spoken language, and communicate through sign language, first discovered her love of kittens in 1984.

She impressed her trainers so much that her story was turned into a book – a tale which quickly soared onto must-read lists the world over.

For her 44th birthday this year, her trainers wanted to give her something special, so they allowed her to select two new kittens to adopt for herself.

Koko was presented with a litter of kittens and from the box, and selected ‘Ms Grey’ and ‘Ms Black’ – after signing the words “cat” and “baby”.

In the video released by her trainers, Koko is shown welcoming the kittens into her world by signing that she wishes to have Ms Grey “put on head”.
