Koala Bears enjoy hot towels and gum leaves on their flight to their new home in the Singapore zoo

Four koala bears enjoyed life in the pointy end of the plane today, complete with hot towels and their snack of choice (gum leaves), as they prepared to move to the Singapore Zoo.

Australia has gifted the cute and cuddly bears to the zoo in honour of the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s independence.

The bears enjoyed themselves thoroughly at the front end of the plane thanks to Qantas, however it must be said that the bears were moved to the cargo hold for the journey to their new home.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop told reporters at the Lone Pine Sanctuary in Brisbane last week that this spot of koala diplomacy was the perfect gift for Australia to give Singapore.

“I can’t think of a better way to express our friendship, our partnership, the depth of relationship,” she said.
