Kirstie Alley has died age 71 after short battle with cancer
The actress' family confirmed the news of her passing on social media on Monday evening (local time).

Star of Cheers, Kirstie Alley has passed away at age 71. Sharing the news of her passing on Instagram, her children, True and Lillie Parker, said she had died after a battle with cancer.

“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” her children’s statement read.

They thanks the doctors and nurses at Moffit Cancer Centre for their care, and went on to speak about Alley’s “zest” for life.

“Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.

“We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time”

Alley found her breakout role in the sitcom Cheers, which earned her an Emmy award and Golden Globe in 1991. She also starred in Veronica’s Closet, which also earned her awards nominations. Her most recent TV appearance was on the The Masked Singer in 2022.

Tributes have flown in for the late actress. John Travolta, who starred alongside Alley in Look Who’s Talking, said: “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”
