United States President Joe Biden, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were some of the world leaders who attended the state reception at Buckingham Palace on Sunday evening (local time).
Described as ‘the reception of the century’, it was the first state reception for the British Monarch since the death of Queen Elizabeth II’s father George VI in 1952.
The hundreds of dignitaries were greeted by King Charles and other working royals including the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and the Princess Royal. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not in attendance, as it was established for working royals only.
President Biden and his wife Jill arrived in a private vehicle, while other world leaders were transported in buses, including President of Ireland Michael D Higgins, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, Emperor Naruhito of Japan and British Prime Minister Liz Truss.
The Buckingham Palace reception went for an hour, with royalty, presidents, prime ministers and dignitaries from 200 countries in attendance.
