Kim Jong-un and Trump Arrive in Singapore

Both Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump have arrived in Singapore, ahead of one of the most anticipated political meetings in recent world history.

Kim Jong-un and Trump Arrive in Singapore

So far, Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un are living in harmony, staying just 750 meters apart; which is hopefully a good omen for tomorrow’s meeting.

The US president hopes the summit will commence a process that will eventually result in seeing North Korea give up nuclear weapons. However, while Kim has said he supports “complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula”, he has yet to articulate specific demands, and experts warn the process could take years. Despite this statement, North Korea is widely expected to resist that and it is unclear what it might ask for in return.

If Donald Trump is nervous about the encounter, he’s definitely not showing it, tweeting on Monday morning that there was “excitement in the air” in Singapore. This is contrary to his previous attitude toward Kim Jong-un. Just nine months ago, Trump said that he was prepared to “totally destroy” North Korea if the US or its allies were attacked. His rant didn’t stop there as he went on to mock the North Korean leader calling him, “rocket man”. Kim didn’t hold back any insults of his own, however, in a rare statement directly attributed to Trump, Kim responded by calling him a “mentally deranged dotard”.

Hopefully, tomorrow’s meeting will feature a little less name-calling and a lot more business talk.
