Kendall Jenner agrees to pay $90,000 after being sued for promoting Fyre Festival
Kendall Jenner has reached a settlement in a lawsuit over an Instagram post promoting the disastrous Fyre Festival.

The supermodel has agreed to pay $US90,000 for her involvement with the festival, according to court documents.

Jenner was one of a number of celebrities who were paid to promote Fyre, which promised to be an extravagant event with high-profile performers, luxurious accomodation and gourmet food.

Instead, it was a complete flop, with none of the promised entertainers appearing, and attendees being forced to sleep in disaster relief tents and eat cheese sandwiches served in foam containers.

Attendees paid between $1,500 and $25,000 per ticket.

A number of celebrities involved with the festival have been sued in an effort to recover money owed to investors, lenders and attendees of the 2017 festival.

Jenner was sued in 2019 in the US Bankruptcy Court in New York by Gregory Messer, who alleged the reality TV star “did not indicate to the public that she was paid to promote the festival”.

Messer alleged Jenner was paid $275,000 for the since-deleted Instagram post, and claimed the post made her millions of followers believe the event “would be filled with famous models on an exotic private island with ‘first-class culinary experiences and a luxury atmosphere’”.

The lawsuit also claimed Jenner’s post led people to believe her brother-in-law, Kanye West would be performing at Fyre Festival.

“Further, Jenner’s reference to her ‘G.O.O.D. Music Family’ as ‘headliners’ at the festival, intentionally led certain members of the public and ticket purchasers to believe that Jenner’s brother-in-law, famous musician and GOOD Music record label founder Kanye West, may be or would be performing at the festival,” said the lawsuit.

“In fact, Mr West was never going to perform at the Festival. This conduct demonstrates a clear lack of good faith on Jenner’s part.”

Festival organiser Billy McFarland hired some of the world’s most high-profile models to hype the event in the Bahamas. Bella Hadid, Hailey Baldwin and Emily Ratajkowski were among those who were hired.

McFarland is currently serving a six-year prison sentence for numerous fraudulent schemes.
