The Hollywood star was clear about how she wanted her body portrayed in her latest TV series.

Kate Winslet said she refused director Craig Zobel’s suggestion that they edit her body in a sex scene in the HBO series Mare of Easttown.

In an interview with the New York Times, the 45-year-old actress said she told director Craig Zobel “don’t you dare” when he offered to smooth out a “bulgy bit of belly.”

She also revealed that she had to review the promotional poster twice because it had been altered too much.

“I’m like: ‘Guys, I know how many lines I have by the side of my eye, please put them all back,’” she said.

“Listen, I hope that in playing Mare as a middle-aged woman – I will be 46 in October – I guess that’s why people have connected with this character in the way that they have done because there are clearly no filters.

“She’s a fully functioning, flawed woman with a body and a face that moves in a way that is synonymous with her age and her life and where she comes from. I think we’re starved of that a bit.”

It’s not the first time Winslet has spoken frankly about beauty standards and body image.

“I do worry about the extra pressure to be ‘perfect’ on girls growing up now. I’m obsessed about the misuse and potential perils of social media for our younger generation,” she said in 2017, adding that she feels comfortable in her own skin.

“I’m loving playing women who are more worn-in because of life experience. And it takes away the pressure of needing to conform, which I’ve never been very good at anyway.”
