On Monday night Kate Sylvester opened New Zealand Fashion Week for 2019 with her autumn/winter 2020 collection, ‘Love Letters.’ The show was a celebration of love and the enduring relationship between Sylvester’s parents. As the show opened love letters that had been exchanged between her parents were scattered across the runway.
As for the collection itself, references to Sylvester’s parents were apparent. Soft, feminine elements – including a rose motif – were juxtaposed with more masculine military-inspired details – a reference to her father’s army background.
Sylvester also brought the brand’s new Reloved initiative – a new programme where consumers can buy and sell pre-loved Kate Sylvester pieces – to life on the runway. Pieces from past collections were interspersed with the new.
