The beauty of movement was the lingering takeaway from Juliette Hogan’s New Zealand Fashion Week show.
The Auckland designer’s collection on the NZFW runway encompassed a selection of new season’s designs and some one-off creations, with the label’s easy elegance once again front and center.
But a brand new embrace of trailing fringe dripping from the necklines of many pieces underlines the detail is likely to be major this sunny season.
Fringe has been a popular addition on international runways for the recent northern summer, along with handcrafted details such as crochet and beading.

During the show, models walked amidst hanging circular curtains of fringe underlining the focus of the collection.
In the show’s notes, it was revealed some of the fringe pieces use up to 12m of fabric to create the swinging layers, which were partly inspired by the artwork Shredded Shirt by Pip Culbert. The artist’s work pares objects down to their essential seams. Hogan’s dramatic designs highlighted the arrival of the label’s bespoke offering, though crisp shirting and pleated mid-length skirts fulfilled any desire for relaxed summer separates.
The runway debut of bridal pieces was another first for the label, that this year marks 20 years since its first NZFW show.
