Angelina Jolie and her six children have moved into “the most private neighbourhood on Earth.”
Hidden Hills is so exclusive, and its residents so influential, that it cannot be seen on Google Street View.
Known as “the richest place in America” because of the many Hollywood A-listers who call it home, the gated community in the San Fernando Valley is a few miles north of Malibu, the seaside city where the couple had their previous home.
The family’s new neighbours include Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, Drake, Jennifer Lopez, a variety of Jenners and the ultimate odd couple, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne.
Jolie’s new home belongs to Denise Richards, Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife, and is currently on the market, priced at $US6.9 million. Jolie is renting it for $US30,000 a month. Brangelina paid $US95,000 a month for their Malibu home.
The house has more than 8000 sq ft of living space as well as two beach-entry pools, a cascading waterfall and an 800 sq ft cabana.
Of course, there’s a kitchen to-die-for, and an enormous wine-tasting room, complemented by a fireplace. One dining room looks straight out of a Victorian estate, decked out with purple chairs, chandelier and gold curtains, while another has marble walls and red cushy chairs.
But it the privacy that makes property in Hidden Hills so sought-after by celebrities.
There are only 648 properties in the suburb; one is currently listed for sale on a real estate website for $US22 million.
“Our nearly 2000 residents enjoy a rural, country way of life that has nearly vanished from Southern California,” says the Hidden Hills website.
“The pastoral setting is highlighted by the absence of sidewalks and street lights and by the presence of horses, llamas, ostriches, and the occasional cow.”
The residents aren’t the sort of people to stroll down to the local shop for a loaf of bread or bottle of milk, so they’re not likely to notice the lack of footpaths.
And that shortcoming is more than made up for. “White three-rail fences, corrals, barns, natural rustic equestrian trails tell visitors that Hidden Hills is a truly special place to live.”
