John Travolta opens up about heartbreaking talk with son after Kelly Preston’s death

"Your brother (Jett) left at 16. Too young. Your mother left at 57. That was too young," Travolta said to his son Ben.

John Travolta revealed that his 10-year-old son Ben had a fear of death after his mother, Kelly Preston, passed away.

The actor spoke about the candid conversation he had with his 10-year-old after on Kevin Hart’s talk show Hart to Heart.

Preston died on 12 July 2020 after a battle with breast cancer. Speaking to Hart, Travolta shared the profound conversation he had with his son.

“(Ben) said to me once, ‘Because mom passed away, I’m afraid you’re going to,'” Travolta shared. “I said, ‘Well, it’s a very different thing.’ And I went through the differences about my longevity and her limited life.”

Travolta then addressed his 10-year-old candidly.

“I said, ‘Ben, you have always loved the truth, and I’m going to tell you the truth about life. Nobody knows when they are going to go or when they are going to stay.”

Travolta went on to speak about the death of their eldest son, Jett, who suffered a seizure on a family vacation in 2006.

“Your brother (Jett) left at 16. Too young. Your mother left at 57. That was too young. But who’s to say? I could die tomorrow. You could. Anybody can,” he added. “So let’s look at it like it’s part of life. You don’t know exactly. You just do your best at trying to live the longest you can.”

Earlier this year, Travolta shared a Mother’s Day tribute to Preston, saying: “Dearest Kelly, you brought into my life three of the most wonderful children I have ever known,” Travolta wrote. “Thank you. We love and miss you.”
