Japan Airlines (JAL) has launched a unique offer: complimentary domestic flights to any destination within Japan for international travellers.
However to make the most of the offer, travellers from 13 eligible countries must book an international flight with JAL in the same booking as the domestic flight. Flights booked separately will not be eligible for the deal.
Launched this week by the country’s national airline, the offering is intended to make it easier for visitors to get around Japan. JAL has an extensive network within the country serving 64 airports and 133 routes.
The airline said in an announcement it wanted to offer a ‘seamless travel experience,’ allowing visitors to explore lesser-known areas, extending travel beyond familiar tourist hot-spots like Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

While Kiwis aren’t able to fly from Aotearoa New Zealand direct to Japan, JAL flies regularly from Sydney and Melbourne, so a hop across the ditch is necessary as a departure point to make the most of the deal. It could also be taken up while flying from a number of other locations internationally, for example Singapore or Hong Kong.
The domestic deal has been launched with eligibility for travellers from 13 countries including US, Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Taiwan and China, though the airline says plans are in place to expand the list of countries.
Japan is proving a hugely popular destination in recent times with drawcards like its stunning beaches, walking tours and hikesand famous cherry blossom festivals.
