Jacinda Ardern receives briefcase cake for her 40th birthday
Jacinda Ardern has shared a snap of the amazing cake she received for her 40th birthday.

The New Zealand prime minister celebrated the milestone birthday on Sunday, and today was surprised by her colleagues with a cake shaped like a briefcase.

“It seems entirely appropriate that this was the amazing cake the office blew me away with this morning,” Ardern said.

“Every night they send me off with one of these briefcases, an edible one made for a very nice change!”

The unique cake creation even came complete with three Beehive-printed files of briefing notes.

It comes after Ardern’s fiancé Clarke Gayford posted a heartfelt message to social media to mark the prime minister’s birthday, calling her his “favourite achiever”.

“I don’t really do these posts, but I think a bit of symmetry like the number 40 is worth posting on,” Gayford wrote.

“Happy birthday today to my favourite achiever in the whole wide world, someone, who despite everything on her plate, still finds time to squeeze lots of fun, love and happiness into our wee family unit.”

Ardern posted a simple reply, responding to his message with a love heart emoji.
