Is Vanilla the Latest Anti-aging Skincare Super Ingredient?

Is Vanilla the Latest Anti-aging Skincare Super Ingredient?

We love it in our food, but could we soon be applying it to our faces as well?

With efficacious ingredients known by name – think retinol, niacinamide or hyaluronic acid – one of the biggest trends in beauty in recent times, there’s potential we’ll soon be searching the shelves for a vanilla extract to benefit our skin too.

That’s the hope of well known vanilla producer Heilala, a company that operates out of New Zealand in partnership with vanilla growers in Tonga, its products loved by some of the world’s top chefs. Heilala is seeking Kickstarter funding from supporters for the launch of a completely new product.

Best known for ethical, sustainable, production of vanilla beans, paste, extracts, powders and syrups, the brand is diversifying its offerings with a new skincare item that harnesses the anti-aging properties of the vanilla bean.

What is Bioblume by Heilala?

Bioblume by Heilala is a brightening, nourishing facial oil consisting of VanilleActiv2, a patent pending ingredient the company has been testing since 2016, in order to prove it is effective in minimising the signs of aging.

According to Heilala, VanilleActiv2 is made of two unique, bioactive compounds extracted from the lipid fraction of Heilala’s vanilla bean, that work to increase the production of collagen, cell regeneration and renewal.

Lipids are the skin’s natural fats and play a crucial role in maintaining the strength of the skin’s protective barrier, which retains moisture and protects the skin from damage.

Along with the hero ingredient, VanilleActiv2, the finished product also contains a blend of vitamin and antioxidant rich plant oils including Kakadu plum, rosehip, jojoba and avocado and includes Bakuchiol, the first natural alternative to retinol. Designed to apply twice daily, the oil is said to nourish the skin, promote cell renewal, collagen restoration and improve elasticity.

Supporters of the Kickstarter will be among the first to try the new skincare oil, however once the funding round has concluded the product will be available for purchase through the brand’s website, with orders shipping in January.
