So is it true? That depends which media outlet’s sources you believe.
UK tabloid The Sun was the first to report that Meghan will be walking the red carpet at the annual fundraising gala that always promises to be a fashion extravaganza.
A source reportedly told the paper the Duchess had been invited to attend with British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful on 4 May.
“The Met Gala is for the Who’s Who of showbusiness,” said a source.
“Naturally Meghan was one of the first names on the guest list, and Edward’s team are excited that the two will go together.”
But since that news spread, Hello! has countered the claims, saying their understanding is that “the Duchess will not be attending the star-studded bash this year”.
Should Meghan decide to make an appearance, she wouldn’t be the first royal to attend.
Princess Beatrice went to the event in 2018, and Princess Diana mingled with Hollywood royalty at the ball in 1996.
Meghan’s attendance would also have the tick of approval from US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Winter, who said in 2019 that the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge would be her dream guests.
“That would be my dream couple. They could leave their husbands at home. It’s the two of them I want,” she said.
