Irish Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, wrote an official letter to pop star Kylie Minogue asking if he could welcome her to Ireland personally ahead her Dublin concert.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar sent a handwritten message saying he was a “huge fan” of Australian pop star Kylie Minogue, offering to meet her in person ahead of her Dublin concert in October last year – which was later canceled and then rescheduled.
The Taoiseach used an official letterhead to write the fan letter to Minogue, freedom of information documents have revealed.
“Dear Kylie,” theVaradkar wrote. “Just wanted to drop you a short note in advance of the concert in Dublin. I am really looking forward to it. Am a huge fan! I understand you are staying in the Merrion Hotel which is just across the street from my office in Government Buildings. If you like, I’d love to welcome you to Ireland personally.”
His department tried twice to block the publication of the letter under a freedom of information request from publication Extra.ie. Varadkar later consented to the information being made public.

Varadkar received a phone call from the singer apologising for the cancelled gig, the paper reported. He eventually went to the rescheduled concert, which took place on Monday December 3rd.
