Inside the issue: MiNDFOOD April 2025
Welcome to the April Birthday Issue of MiNDFOOD, chock-full of exciting cruises to plan for, health and beauty stories to keep you feeling and looking good, and of course, our Readers’ Favourite Birthday Cake!

Our cover star this month is producer and actress, Demi Moore. A 2025 Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild winner for The Substance, she shares her pride at being recognised for a film that explores the way women are often ‘aged out’ of their roles and the challenges she has faced.

“I related to the story very deeply,” she said. “It really resonated with me; the impact of the value system my character was placing on everything in her life that was external. And it scared me just enough that I knew it would push me out of my comfort zone. It was an example of recognising something that scares you, but in just that right way. Being uncomfortable is not always a bad thing.”

Physically and emotionally, humans thrive when we spend quality time with friends and family and enjoy meaningful interaction and deep connections with one other. And yet, as individuals, we have never been more lonely. In a MiNDFOOD special report we look at the trends, examine the latest studies, talk to the experts and learn what we must do to come together again.

On our health pages this month, Dr Jo Skinner takes a look at the new weight-loss drugs and who they may help, and writer Jo Tovia examines why, for many of us, eating is not just about fuelling our bodies but it has a deep-seated connection to our feeling and emotions. Perimenopausal rage is not only real, it can be harnessed for good. We tell you how. We unpick ‘arrival fallacy’ – why so many of us are never satisfied but are always chasing ‘the next thing’ and how this can work against us. And we explore why skeletal muscle mass is so important to build and maintain as we age.

Beauty Editor Megan Bedford reveals how to transform your hair from languid to lustrous the (mostly) natural way; and she shares the best night-time skincare to revive your skin while you slumber.

In our Postcard section, we take you cruising around the world, on journeys from close to home – Australia and Bali – to further afield in Europe, Antarctica and Alaska, with a special look at the onboard food offerings. And for first-time cruisers, don’t miss our unmissable advice on ‘What to pack on your cruise’.

In our INSEASON section, gardening expert Franco Sessa gets ready for the cooler weather by planting seasonal veggies and harvesting the last of summer’s crops; and we share the perfect pastry dishes to make this Easter or Anzac Day to enjoy with friends and family.

We share the best upcoming films and TV shows and in BOOK CLUB, we highlight the best new releases – all available at mindfood.com/shop.

All this, plus 15 pages of your favourite Puzzles!

The April issue of MiNDFOOD is on sale 10 March in New Zealand and 13 March in Australia. Available in stores and online at mindfood.com/shop
