Inside MiNDFOOD July 2018

Let’s start talking again – By MiNDFOOD Editor-in-Chief Michael McHugh

Ever felt lonely? That sinking feeling when perhaps you’re in a room full of people around you, but still feel quite alone. Or perhaps it’s when you’re by yourself and you get that hard-to-shake feeling. This issue of MiNDFOOD we explore the art of making and maintaining real connections that are good for your health. When our writer Cat Rodie and I started brainstorming what a feature about loneliness could be, we arrived at the idea of an almost lifecycle of how someone can travel through life and experience loneliness throughout their life. In our feature “All the Lonely People”, we learn that interaction and conversation is important in dealing with loneliness. Building a community spirit and making plans for regular social interaction with loved ones is also important, as society becomes more fractured, and we live lives often devoid of family and friend support networks. These relationships shouldn’t be taken for granted, and in “Friends for Life”, we learn that there’s no substitute for face-to-face contact, and those of us with busy social lives enjoy better wellbeing and live longer.

Rachel Weisz is on our July cover, and shares how she prefers talking about life and love with her husband, as opposed to connecting through social media. Not to mention she’s expecting. As husband Daniel Craig, yes that’s right 007 himself, made writer Maureen Dowd a cappuccino in their East Village home in Manhattan as the interview took place, Rachel shares with us details about her new movie Disobedience and other works in the pipeline.

Speaking of timeless beauties, don’t miss our sit-down interview with Isabella Rossellini who has defied the ageists with a career in the beauty industry that spans almost four decades.

This being our mid-winter issue we bring together a truly delicious looking food and travel special that sees us travel to Scotland, Barcelona, and Iran for the most extraordinary cooking school. We also announce the 12 Silver Fern Farms Restaurant Awards finalists.

Also in the July issue:

When injury strikes: Coping strategies for dealing with an injury. A sit down with Simon Bridges, leader of the opposition in New Zealand. Find out what’s trending in design with our special Kitchens from Milan.
