Australians are being encouraged to make a difference even after they are gone, with ‘Live on’ being the key message throughout this year’s Include a Charity Week.
Include a Charity Week is a national awareness campaign that encourages people to consider including a charity when preparing or next updating their will.
While Australians are known to be giving people, with 70% supporting a charity in their lifetime, only 19% consider leaving a donation for charity after they are gone, and just 12.5% actually end up going through with it.
This year, more than 100 Australian charities have partnered together to promote Include a Charity Week in the hopes of encouraging people to be more mindful and informed.
According to Include a Charity, many people don’t even realise they can leave a financial contribution towards a charity in their will.
Most Australian charities rely on donations to continue carrying out their good work within the community and “Include a Charity Week highlights the enormous assistance a charitable bequest can deliver to charities everywhere” said Chairperson of Include a Charity, Leanne Warner.
Leaving a bequest to a charity can be done via consultation with your solicitor or financial advisor, or by visiting www.includeacharity.com.au.
The website is not only a easy tool for making a bequest, it is also a useful source of information, outlining the types of bequests that can be made in addition to further relevant facts.
Helping a charity even after you are gone, is a wonderful way to contribute to the community, as well as a great way to be remembered.
