Now in its 12th year, the iD Dunedin Fashion Week’s International Emerging Designer Awards once again unveiled the unique designs of talented designers from all around the globe. This year’s stellar judging panel consisted of local designers – Tanya Carlson, Kate Sylvester and Margi Robertson of NOM*D – who were joined by this year’s guest of honour, New Zealand-born, UK-based fashion designer Emilia Wickstead.

While 38 collections from around the globe, hailing from Otago to Italy and everywhere in between, graced the catwalk, it was a trio of Trans-Tasman designers that scooped the top prizes. 24-year-old Jordan Anderson from Queensland University of Technology secured first place, taking home a cash prize of $6000 for his Cool Runnings-inspired collection “Global Citizen.” Second place went to Hannah Kim from University of Technology Sydney, for her collection “Ode to Monster” and Stephanie Frig took home third place with her vibrant and arresting collection “All About Nagymama.” Judges were so captivated by Frig’s collection that she was offered a London-based internship with guest judge Emilia Wickstead. Frig features in our “Five to Watch” designers in the new A/W16 issue of MiNDFOOD STYLE on sale now. “I’m speechless, I was not expecting that I just feel so grateful to be even given the opportunity to showcase but to win something on top of that is a bonus,” Frig told MiNDFOOD STYLE.
