MiNDFOOD Style associate editor Carolyn Enting travelled to Dunedin earlier this month to do the selections for next year’s iD Dunedin Fashion Week.

The shows, which will be held on the platform of Dunedin’s historic railway station on April 24 and 25, will also include an international guest designer (yet to be named) as well as the iD Emerging Designer Award winners and highlights from Otago Polytechnic’s graduate fashion designers.

A new section is also being added to the shows next year in which all participating designers will design a one-off creation from leathers and suede provided by deer leather specialists, New Zealand Light Leathers who supply some of the world’s leading luxury fashion brands.

“Innovation in design was a strong theme,” says Enting. “I have no doubt that it will be an exciting catwalk show that will inspire.”

Tickets to the shows go on sale on December 2.

WearableArt set to WOW

Auckland Museum will be dressed up at night in magnificent colours to celebrate the opening of the World of WearableArt exhibition this weekend.

The special exhibition, which opens on November 21, runs until March 22 (2015) before embarking on a world tour.

The exhibition showcases 32 World of WearableArt (WOW) garments selected from the portfolio of competition winners from over the past decade. It will provide visitors an opportunity to experience the magic up close, and learn about the designers who spend hundreds of hours creating the wearable works of art and the production team behind the shows.

The Museum, with the support from MiNDFOOD Style, will also host two after-hours Short Talks in 2015 where experts will share stories of design and talk about the key accessories that complete the look from outlandish shoes and eye-catching jewellery.
