Iceland is broadcasting people’s screams to relieve COVID-19 stress
Is screaming the best form of stress relief?

As people search for different ways to deal with the stress of the pandemic, Iceland is offering up a unique type of therapy: screaming.

The ‘Let It Out!’ campaign was created by Promote Iceland and encourages people to relieve their pent up emotions by screaming.

Alongside with ad campaign is a website which shows yellow speakers broadcasting the screams of people around the world in Iceland’s idyllic scenic locations, such as clifftops, waterfalls and glaciers.

Anyone that visits the website can submit their own recording and see it broadcast on the website.

“You’ve been through a lot this year and it looks like you need the perfect place to let your frustrations out,” Promote Iceland says.

“Somewhere big, vast and untouched. It looks like you need Iceland. Record your scream and we’ll release it in Iceland’s beautiful, wide-open spaces. And when you’re ready, come let it out for real. You’ll feel better, we promise.”

According to therapist Zoë Aston, there are 3 steps to the screaming process. First, you should think about the volume and sound of your scream.

Second, stand with your feet hip-width apart and follow your instincts.

Lastly, scream from your gut. “If it helps, put your hands on your belly and take a few deep breaths before you begin,” says Aston.

As well as offering a unique and lighthearted stress relief, the campaign also seeks to highlight the advantages of Iceland as a travel destination.

Iceland has eased its travel restrictions and is now open to passengers inside the Schengen Area. All arrivals can be tested or quarantine for two weeks.
