Several buildings are now on fire, with flamed spreading across the famous Camden Lock markets. The London Fire Brigade has confirmed it has sent eight fire engines and more then 70 firefighters to the area.
A spokeswoman for London’s Metropolitan Police says no injuries have been reported.
“Police were called on Monday at 12.01am to Camden Lock Market to reports of a fire. London Fire Brigade were already at the scene when officers arrived. It is unknown at this stage if any persons are injured, we await the update,” the spokeswoman said.
One eyewitness tweeted: “Just drove past Camden market and there’s a huge fire on top of a building close to the Loch Bridge! Crazy, crazy scenes.”
There are more than 1,000 shops and stalls at the market, which is well known as a centre of social life for many people in this part of North London.
