How to Solve Summer Skin Challenges Before They Begin

How to Solve Summer Skin Challenges Before They Begin
Achieve healthy, radiant and resilient skin with a couple of additions to your daily routine.

Summer is always keenly anticipated, but this year its arrival is more welcome than ever. The season of embracing the best of what NZ has to offer, be it sun, surf or dining alfresco, is a delight, but those enjoyments can sometimes come at a cost to our skin.

The two biggest complexion challenges when the mercury rises are ensuring your skin stays adequately protected as well hydrated. The good news is that with a couple of pre-emptive tweaks to your skincare routine you can get ahead of any issues and maintain healthy, glowing skin throughout the season.

It’s well known harsh summer sun can have an impact, it’s UV rays causing free radicals that break down collagen and elasticity, as well as increasing the risk of skin cancer. It’s also to blame for pigmentation flare ups, where unwelcome uneven brown patches show up after even limited sun exposure.

Protection with an effective sunscreen is a fairly straight forward defence, just make sure you apply well and re-apply regularly!

But it’s the more unpredictable skin changes that can be annoying at this time of year. Humidity and higher temperatures can cause perspiration as well as your body producing more oil that can in turn lead to blocked pores and breakouts. It’s not a combination that would ever lead you to think your skin is dehydrated, but experts point out it’s a commonly misunderstood issue. The loss of moisture means fine lines and wrinkles are exaggerated too.

If you’re prone to flushing or feel heat excessively through your cheeks this time of year can be additionally challenging.

Keep it simple

The solution lies in keeping things simple and choosing gentle skincare that ensures environmental stressors won’t impede the skin’s protective moisture barrier.

It’s something that has long been part of Kiwi skincare brand Snowberry’s approach, developing industry-leading natural formulations that nourish and hydrate the skin, strengthening it to operate in optimal condition so you can avoid or minimise the aforementioned challenges.

The brand’s New Radiance Face Serum, $85, uses New Zealand Kanuka honey from Snowberry’s own gardens and hyaluronic acid to provide deep hydration, helping to plump skin and quickly soothe the appearance of redness. It also contains a trademarked CuPEP copper peptide scientifically proven to reduce the appearance of lines by an average of 25.6%.

A further weapon against environmental skin stressors is the Snowberry’s Youth Renewing Serum, $110. The hero ingredients here are two native New Zealand anti-aging superstars, Harakeke seed oil and totarol. Harakeke seed oil is deeply hydrating and rich in essential fatty acids Omegas 3 and 6 that condition and strengthen skin while Totarol, an extract from native Totara also grown in the Snowberry gardens, is a super antioxidant, stronger even than Vitamin E. The serum also contains other trending and effective skincare ingredients like Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), and Tocopherol (Vitamin E).

Blending the best of nature and science, the products are gentle but proven to actually make a difference in the appearance of your skin.

What’s more? The company is environmentally sustainable and proudly carbon neutral, displaying a carboNZeroCert™ certification for each of its products, so you can feel good about more than just your glowing skin.
