A lip scrub will help keep your lips smooth and hydrated. Here’s how to make one at home.

The change in seasons can often wreak havoc on our skin and our lips are no exception. While a great lip balm will help, adding a lip scrub to your routine will help you slough away dry skin leaving lips smooth and kissable.

Although various beauty brands make lip scrubs, they’re incredibly easy to make a home. Kourtney Kardashian is a self-confessed DIY lip scrub aficionado and has shared her go-to recipe on her own website POOSH and with Vogue.

Creating Kourtney’s must-have lip scrub is easy and only takes a few pantry staples. Just mix equal parts honey, coconut oil – best at room temperature – and organic raw sugar.  “I just keep these products in my bathroom so that I can make them anytime,” Kourtney told Vogue.

To make an all-natural DIY lip scrub you need:

  • 1 teaspoon of Manuka honey
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon of raw sugar

Combine all the ingredients together and your lip scrub is good to go. If you prefer a lighter scrub, you can experiment with the amount of sugar you use. You can store the scrub for up to two weeks in an air-tight container.

To use, take a small amount on your ring finger and gently massage across your bottom lip and then the top. with the residue press and rub your lips together. As it’s all natural, don’t worry if some gets in your mouth, but you can wipe the sugar residue away with a soft muslin or face cloth if you prefer.

Not keen to DIY? Here are three of the best options available to purchase:

MAC Lip Scrubtious, $39; Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Smoothing Sugar Scrub, $69; Frank Body Cherry Bomb Lip Scrub, $19

Still have continually dry lips? Give the lipstick a miss and try one of these Top Eight Tinted Lip Balms instead.
