Salt can be so much more exciting than just your familiar table salt. With so many options to choose from, give your shaker a shake-up and explore new colours, textures and tastes with our inspired selection.

Rosemary salt

Pluck the needles from 2-3 rosemary sprigs, until you have 2 tbsp. Add to a food processor with 100g sea salt. Pulse until the rosemary is chopped and combined with the salt.

Seaweed salt

Break 3 nori sheets into pieces and place in a food processor with 100g coarse sea salt. Blitz until the nori pieces are the same size as the salt. Then serve with salmon or sprinkle over ramen.

Lemon salt

Zest 2-3 lemons (depending on size) and add the zest to a food processor with 100g sea salt. Pulse until combined. Now you have the perfect seasoning for your white fish.

Chilli salt

Place 100g sea salt in a food processor with 2 tsp chilli flakes. Blitz until the chilli flakes are just broken down and everything is combined. Add to stir-fries, pasta and roasted vegetables.

Chicken salt

Place one chicken stock cube in a food processor with 100g sea salt. Pulse until the stock cube is broken up and incorporated with the salt and you have the perfect seasoning for hot chips.

Garlic salt

Add 3-4 peeled garlic cloves to a food processor with 100g sea salt. Process for 20 seconds. Remove mix, spread on a tray and back at 100°C (80°C fan forced) for an hour. Sprinkled on sautéed vegetables.

Red wine salt

Boil red wine in a saucepan over medium-high heat until it is significantly reduced. Add sea salt and stir until combined. Lay the mixture out on a baking tray and leave to dry overnight.

Sichuan salt

Lightly toast 100g Sichuan peppercorns, then add to a food processor with 100g sea salt. Pulse until the peppercorns are broken down and incorporated with the salt. This is a great seasoning for Asian dishes.

Bacon salt

Place 100g bacon on a baking tray and play in a 190°C oven (170°C fan forced) for 20 minutes. Allow to cool. Break up and place in a food processor with 100g salt. Pulse a few times until combined.

Vanilla salt

Split 1-2 large vanilla beans and scrape out the seeds. Add the seeds to a food processor with 100g sea salt, then pulse a few times until combined. It makes a great additional to caramels and choc-chip cookies.

Curry salt

Take one tsp of curry powder and one tsp of garam masala and add to a food processor with 100g sea salt. Pulse until combined for a delicious addition to chicken, pork and veggies.

Mushroom salt

Add approximately 50g dried porcini or shiitake mushrooms to a food processor with 100g sea salt. Blitz until the mushroom pieces are the same size as the salt. Try it on meat dishes or avocado toast.
