Take a tour through Goldwyn House in Los Angeles, as featured in 'Curated Style' by Kerrie-Ann Jones.

A home styled with art uplifts the soul and inspires the mind. Goldwyn House is the home of David Alhadeff, founder and CEO of The Future Perfect. It is a residential concept gallery where he is surrounded by an abundance of creativity through the art lives with on display.

The entrance welcomes guests with an artisan table made from brass and a tulip sculpture chair.

Goldwyn House is a dazzling twentieth-century Beaux-Arts neoclassical mansion that was designed and built in 1916 by Arthur S. Heineman, and most notably occupied by the famous movie producer Samuel Goldwyn. This history and grandeur sets the scene for David’s guests to explore his home and view the exhibitions. The interiors showcase a blend of past and present, with newly plastered walls accentuated by detailed mouldings. This preserves the home’s history even as it exhibits culturally important works. David has created a welcoming atmosphere, and you can’t help feeling inspired as you walk through this home.

The kitchen displays David’s personal art collection.
The dining room features art in many forms: the sculptures, the pendant light, the dining table and even the wallpaper.

The dining room walls are a work of art in themselves. They are lined with Calico Wallpaper’s ‘Enchant’ wallpaper, which creates a breathtaking atmosphere. It’s easy to get lost in the beauty of the walls. The living room is vibrant with colour and sculptural furniture and lighting. Each piece is equal parts functional and artistic. Every corner features a unique item that catches your eye. Next to the living room is the main gallery space, where exhibited works are showcased.

The gallery spaces display the sculptural works on exhibition.

It is unusual to live among a gallery space, but David explains, ‘It’s like living in a museum. I’m not very materially attached, so I’m in a fortunate position to enjoy constantly changing the rooms that I live in. It provides a unique and fun living condition and I love that. I pay a lot of special attention to how the spaces are curated and think about how we will engage and live within it.’

Unique lighting is a motif throughout this home.

Upstairs, in the main bedroom, ombre wallpaper and patchwork curtains evoke a moody feel. David has considered every surface an opportunity to display art, and the curtains are no exception. The artful objects and the moody tones of the room create a tranquil and restful environment.

The wallpaper, patchwork curtain and moody brown bedlinen create a calm ambience in the bedroom.

an artful layer.

Across the hall is a room that is part exhibition space and part dining room. It is filled with artistic creations and a delicate chandelier that shimmers in the sunlight. Lighting fixtures are another way that David has introduced art and unique forms into the home.

Around the corner is what David calls the Colin King room. David and Colin are great friends and they have designed a furniture collection together. This upstairs living room houses the collection, which features Colin’s signature tonal, warm and minimal style. David’s home demonstrates that art in a home is not restricted to canvases on the wall. It can be found in wallpaper, furniture, lighting, objects and ceramics that are simultaneously functional and creative forms of expression. David’s curated approach to displaying art embraces a creative way of living and a way to feel inspired at home.
