While many woman prepare for menopause with their girlfriends and support network around them, Gwyneth Paltrow has called in the experts.

As she prepares for the hormonal changes, the Goop guru has placed diet and exercise at the top of her priorities.

“I try to walk multiple times a week, sweat, exercise, I sauna, and those are just my ways of coping.” she told W magazine.

In an online video, she explained: “I think menopause gets a really bad rap and needs a bit of rebranding.

“When you get into perimenopause you notice a lot of changes.

“I can feel hormonal shifts happening, the moods, you’re all of a sudden furious for no reason …

“I don’t think we have in our society a great example of an aspirational menopausal woman.”

While a lot of women don’t talk about the time before menopause, Paltrow has been very open about her experiences with permenopause, the time before menopause. During a Goop ‘Ask Me Anything’ podcast she said “My emotions are all over the place as well. Sometimes I get in bed at night and my heart races.”

“The hormones are really no joke.

“Sometimes I feel like I’m a tetherball at the end of a cord, and it’s just like thrashing me around.”

A time of great upheaval for many women, the symptoms of menopause can be tempered by choosing the right foods and making lifestyle changes. Nutritionalist Polly Rae recommends increasing your intake of fresh vegetables and herbs, such as parsley, fennel and celery.
