When it was announced that Australia would be allowed to enter a contestant into the Eurovision Song Contestant, the internet pretty much lost its mind into a glitter ball, sequinned fever dream of who we would choose as our representative for glory and honour.
Names such as Kylie Minogue, who could have reprised her entirely Eurovision appropriate gold hot pants, and John Farnham (OK that might have just been me) were thrown around.
Today SBS, who will once again televise the proceedings and were tasked with finding a contestant have announced former Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian will represent his country at the 60th annual contest, this year to be held in Vienna in May.
The announcement was made at the Opera House in Sydney on Thursday morning. His song will be announced on March 16.
In an unusual move (though we suppose no more unusual than Australia competing in Eurovision), Australia will move straight into the final without having to move through the semi-finals.
Jessica Mauboy paved the way for Australia when she sang during the interval at last year’s contest, which was won by the irrepressible Conchita Wurst representing Austria.
