If I asked you to name three significant women in science, most of us would probably be stumped after uttering Marie Curie.
Women who may have accomplished incredible feats in areas of science, Mathematics or the Arts often tend to become invisible as time goes on.
Recognising this disregarding of women’s achievements, a group of teenagers from activist group SPARK Movement approached Google’s Field Trip app, with a clever idea.
The two have now collaborated in the creation of a ‘The Women on The Map’ APP that will highlight when you are in a location where a woman has achieved an incredible achievement.

SPARK’s concept arose when they noticed a lack of featured women on Google’s Doodles, the screen that appears on the home page of the search engine on certain holidays. They did some research which found that only 17 per cent of Google Doodles from 2010 to 2013 showcased women.
So far there are 100 women on the ‘map’ with many more planned. The organisation that is passionate about telling Herstory, welcomes involvement from people who have a story to share about a woman who inspires them.
