Going dotty: Polka dots take over the fashion scene

We're seeing spots for summer 2024.

Like leopard print, bold florals, paisley or houndstooth, polka dots are a print that is always around, but occasionally has a big fashion moment.

Consider that moment to have come back around. Spots and dots are turning up everywhere, making the print the perfect playful choice whether you’re heading to the northern hemisphere for a warm weather getaway, or you’re getting the jump on summer fashion trends Down Under.

From high-fashion labels turning out dotty pieces on the runway, to affordable chain stores following in their wake, the polka dot is back in a big way.

It was perfectly evidenced by newly pregnant Margot Robbie, who watched the men’s singles semi-finals at Wimbledon in a black and white spotted dress from Alaïa.

Sienna Miller also attended, wearing a two-piece from Prada covered in tiny polka dots, as did Kirsten Dunst, making a stylish appearance in a navy blue Simone Rocha polka dot dress.

Another big moment? Actress Brianna Hildebrand looking elegant in a floor-length Stella McCartney gown at the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ film premiere in New York City.

Other brands embracing the dot right now? The likes of Altuzarra, Stella McCartney, Balmain, and Maison Margiela and more.

For more wallet-friendly options, check out Cos’ oversized spots and Zara’s miniscule ones.

Consider this your heads up to channel your inner Minnie Mouse (or Princess Diana, or Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman’s polo scene) and jump into a dotty summer. The playful-yet-chic trend is perfect for the upcoming relaxed season of socialising.
