For most ordinary folk getting our morning routines are tricky enough, without having to remember a complicated skincare routine. Unlike celebrities, most of us don’t have a dermatologist on speed dial or a daily facial locked into our diaries, so it’s important to work with what we have. Luckily, we have the scoop on the best things you can do to ensure your skin is healthy and radiant.

Remove Your Makeup

If clogged pores are what you’re looking for, by all means, don’t wash off your makeup. But if you’re wanting beautiful, radiant skin, one of the best things you can do for it is to cleanse your face of makeup before hitting the hay.

Wash Your Face

While the jury is still out on how often to wash your face, the fact remains that cleansing is still an important part of any skincare routine. Because over-washing can lead to irritation and a lack of moisture, a common-sense approach is better than any hard rule: Always wash your face after a workout to prevent breakouts, and in both the am and pm. 

Exfoliate Weekly

A little skin scrub doesn’t go amiss, in fact, according to dermatologists, you should be exfoliating your skin at least once or twice a week to rid yourself of dead skin and usher in healthy, glowing skin.

Sleep and Water Are Key

The rule is eight to eight: eight glasses of water and eight hours of sleep. If you want your skin to be hydrated, drinking plenty of water is a key ingredient. Water keeps skin cells hydrated, so if you’re not drinking enough, this can lead to dry and dull-looking skin. When you’re sleeping your body and skin is in repair mode, rejuvenating and regenerating. Getting in eight hours of sleep does wonders for giving skin a healthy glow. Another helpful tip is to use a silk pillowcase to relieve the pressure from your face, reducing the risk of creasing.

Order is Important

Make sure you use your skincare products in the right order! If you apply them in the wrong sequence you won’t get the full benefits and your effort will be in vain. The magic order is: makeup remover, cleanser, exfoliator or toner, treatments i.e. acne spot treatments, serums or mists, eye cream, moisturiser, oil, SPF. Another important tip is not to use a makeup remover as your cleanser, or vice versa, you must use both. Many cleansers can’t take off concealer or foundation completely, especially around the eyes and nose, so a two-pronged approach is very necessary.
