Giambattista Valli x H&M Collection Takes to the Runway in Rome

Fashion designer Giambattista Valli returned to his birth town to unveil his collaboration with H&M over the weekend. Pieces from the highly anticipated Giambattista Valli x H&M collection came to life on a runway in Rome as one of the city’s historial landmarks – Palazzo Doria – formed the backdrop for the breathtaking show.

“I created my fashion house in Paris, but I proudly claim my Roman origins: my heart will always belong to the CittĂ  Eterna, and this is why I chose Rome for the show and in particular Palazzo Doria Pamphilj. With its eclecticism, Rome has integrally shaped my views and personality. It was wonderful to see it all come to life in my hometown,” says Giambattista Valli.

The timeless, ageless and effortless pieces of the Giambattista Valli x H&M collection came to life on a pink runway that featured a mix of models and personalities, including street-cast Romans. The show ended in a spectacular grand finale led by Kendall Jenner in the now-famous red dress worn in the campaign for Giambattista Valli x H&M. Guests included Troye Sivan, Sofia Carson, Alexa Demie, Halima Aden, H.E.R, Chiara Ferragni, Cameron Monaghan and Chris Lee, all dressed in looks from the collection.

“Hosting the Giambattista Valli x H&M launch event in what was a genuine Roman night full of fun and glamour with a “Dolce Vita” spin, was absolutely delightful. The spirit of this unique collection came to life in rooms full of historic splendour, as the new wave of Valli Girls and Valli Boys walked the runway, ready to take over the night and the streets”, says Ann Sofie Johansson, creative advisor for H&M.

The Giambattista Valli x H&M collection will be launched in selected H&M stores worldwide on November 7.

Allbirds Release Limited-Edition Collection to Celebrate NZ Bird of the Year

To celebrate the New Zealand Bird of the Year, Allbirds has released a limited-edition collection dedicated to the winner.

More than two-thirds of New Zealand’s native birds are threatened with extinction. To help shine a light on the crisis and to give the country’s unique birdlife a voice, each year New Zealand Forest & Bird runs ‘Bird of the Year’ where the public can vote for their favourite bird.

Last year’s title was taken out by the KererĹ« – the New Zealand wood pigeon – and to mark the win, sustainably minded footwear brand Allbirds has once again partnered with New Zealand Forest & Bird to launch a limited collection of shoes to celebrate the nation’s Bird of the Year

To support the New Zealand Forest & Bird’s conservation work, and in homage of the Kererū, the Allbirds design team have come up with two feather-inspired shoes: the Sober Kererū seen in the low-profile Tree Runner style and the Tipsy Kererū in the high-top Tree Topper style.

Allbirds’ Tree fabrication is a renewable material that is much easier on the environment than traditional fabrics. The tree fibre — TENCELTM Lyocell — is sourced from South African farms that minimize fertilizer and rely on rainfall, not irrigation. Compared to traditional materials like cotton, it uses 95% less water and cuts their carbon footprint in half. Along with this tree-based upper, the shoelaces are made from recycled bottles and the soles are made from sugar.

“One of the reasons New Zealanders love Bird of the Year so much is because of the passion, quirky Originality, and light-hearted trash-talking that goes into promoting our native birds. Everyone involved has a lot of fun,” says Forest & Bird spokesperson Megan Hubscher.

“Partnering with an organisation that is similarly dedicated to a more sustainable future is important for Allbirds and we are excited to be continuing the relationship” says Allbirds co-founder Tim Brown.

A portion of proceeds from the sale of the Sober Kereru and Tipsy Kereru shoe will be donated to Forest & Bird New Zealand in support of their work.

You’ll have to be quick if you want to get your hands on a pair as last year the Bird of the Year collection sold out within just two weeks.

The shoes are available now both online at Allbirds.com or in-store at the Allbirds Auckland boutique in Britomart.
