Wellington artist Eve Armstrong is bringing a different flavour to this year’s Auckland Art Fair with a table that will allow visitors to get trading.

The Trading Table is an ongoing work first staged in 2003 at Auckland University’s Elam School of Fine Arts, and has been presented on a number of occasions.

The Trading Table allows visitors to swap objects, skills, ideas and services for something on the table.

“We accept and trade in a vast array of currencies. From movie passes and tailored critique sessions to succulent cutting collections, secrets, books and an ‘over the phone’ jukebox. We have seen it all,” Armstrong says.

Armstrong graduated from Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts in 2003, and in 2006 was an inaugural recipient of the Arts Foundation of New Zealand New Generation Award.

She has contributed solo projects to a wide array of international exhibitions, including at Dertien Hectare, Netherlands (2010), the 3rd Auckland Triennial (2007), the Busan Biennale (2006), the SCAPE Art & Industry Biennial, 2006; and held a major solo exhibition at Artspace Auckland (2005-2006).

The Auckland Art Fair, New Zealand’s premier international showcase for contemporary art, is held from May 25 to 29 at The Cloud on Auckland’s Queen’s Wharf, artfair.co.nz.
