Used as a popular moisturiser since Ancient Greek & Roman times, lanolin has long been celebrated for its beneficial hydrating and nourishing properties. Easily absorbed into the skin, lanolin works to improve the suppleness and elasticity associated with healthy, youthful skin.

Sheep produce lanolin to protect their skin from the sun, wind and rain. Lanolin also has antibacterial and antifungal properties to help keep the skin healthy. A natural oil extracted from the wool of the sheep, lanolin is the closest oil in nature to that which humans produce. Lanolin can absorb more than 200 per cent of its weight in water, which helps to hydrate the skin, and it also acts as a barrier to prevent further moisture loss. Proof of this is in the hands of shearers and wool workers around the world – they are known for having particularly soft and supple hands that retain their youthful look, due to their constant handling of lanolin-rich sheep’s wool.
Lanolin is extracted after the wool is removed, then it is cleaned to eliminate all impurities before being added to the Wild Ferns Lanolin skincare range. However, lanolin is not the only beneficial ingredient in the Wild Ferns Lanolin skincare collection. To further enhance the conditioning and rebalancing benefits of these crèmes and lotions, antioxidant-rich apple extract and grapeseed oil have been included too. There is also nourishing and energising royal jelly; collagen to provide the skin with strength, flexibility and resilience; marshmallow root extract to soothe; and skin-boosting alfalfa. The formula also contains protein-rich placenta to increase the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the skin – which helps to promote cell renewal.
