Our fashion scene in Aotearoa always gets a lot of attention, but we have plenty of talent in the accessories department too. In particular, the designs being created by contemporary and fine jewellery creators locally.
We take a look at the latest drops from Kiwi jewellery labels that promise to add enduring style to modern wardrobes, with unique pieces that will last much longer than a seasonal whim.
Naveya & Sloane
Making sure there are modern luxury options for the guys as well, Naveya & Sloane has created a sleek selection of men’s signet rings.
The four new rings feature asscher or emerald-cut diamonds and are handcrafted by their Auckland-based team. However each item is customisable, from the diamonds – might you consider including rare champagne or cognac stones? – to the engraving, meaning you can include initials, a symbol, or a date with significant meaning.
The fine jewellery label has also recently opened its second showroom, this time located in Ōtautahi Christchurch, making its pieces more accessible for those located in the South Island. The showroom is found on the second floor of the beautifully-restored Midland Club Building.
Meadlowlark
Auckland’s Meadowlark jewellery continues the evolution of its range with the arrival of new collection Dreams.
On the eve of the brand’s 20-year anniversary, the collection draws on previous references and an ongoing interest in floral blooms.
The new designs are slightly more gentle than what has come before. In particular, a delicate bell-like suspended shape called the Magda, that conveys the idea of a string of wildflowers around the neck or dangling solo from the ear. Another style, the Posie ring, nestles a diamond within the heart of smooth petals.
Jasmin Sparrow
Inspired by metal’s brilliant polish, Jasmin Sparrow’s new collection ‘Essence’ continues a reputation for bold fashion-forward shapes that demand attention, but also have a sophisticated finish.
The ball-like forms in necklaces, earrings and rings deliver a glossy reflection that perfectly balances the season’s strict garment tailoring and more frothy fabrics alike.
Each piece in Sparrow’s collections are made with recycled metals, for an environmentally-conscious approach.
Silk & Steel
The pleasing balance of the hexagon is the inspiration for Silk & Steel’s new collection of rings, earrings and pendants. Each hexagon-shaped piece is created with rose quartz, known for love and healing, and black spinel, a gemstone that represents strength and resilience.
The capsule range is rounded out with a slimline stacking ring and small hoop earrings in gold or silver, also made to layer up.
Karen Walker
Known for regularly updating the brand’s signature icons like its playful runaway girl as well as bows and pearls, this season the label is looking to the skies instead.
Timed around the solstice and Aotearoa’s Matariki celebrations, the new range focuses on sun and moon detailing each with expressive, tarot-inspired faces. The collection includes a selection of diminutive drop earrings and pendants in gold and silver.
