1. She’s vocal about supporting women
The singer is outspoken in her support of women, fighting back against how they are represented in the media, and calling out trolls.
“Women for a very long time have been oppressed by the media,” she told MiNDFOOD. “What’s happening now is sort of revolutionary – we only stand up for what we believe in, what we feel comfortable doing, what rings true for us, and what makes us feel proud of ourselves. We’re not taking bullshit from anyone.”
The star has also lent her support to Planned Parenthood’s Bans Off My Body campaign, which fights against restrictions on legal abortion. Women’s freedom is hugely important to Lipa, who says “to be free is what I stand for”.
“It’s such a big part of who we are – we just want to live our lives the way we feel we deserve to.”
2. She’s down to earth
Despite her overnight success, Lipa strives to preserve her authenticity and continues to be level-headed.
“I never like to compromise on things that feel true to me,” she said. “I have a clear idea of the way I see myself and what I want to do in my career. Because I have that, although I’m still learning, I’m able to make certain decisions without regrets.”
3. She’s grateful
Lipa doesn’t take her stardom for granted, and she acknowledges that in many industries women still have to work much harder than men to get where they want to be.
“The climb to get there is what makes us who we are. It makes us a lot stronger and it’s an incredible thing that fills you with so much gratitude and pushes you where you want to be.”
4. She strives to inspire young people to achieve their dreams
Lipa hopes that her accomplishments will show young people that they can reach for the stars too.
“My message is basically that if I can do it, you can do it too,” she revealed to MiNDFOOD. “And to show young women, young adults, young people all over the world that whatever you set your mind to – whatever your goal is – you should always focus on the things that mean the most to you.
“Make sure you take pride in the things that you do, so that you put 100 per cent into the art that you create – and that applies not just in the music, fashion on creative industries, but in whatever industry you work in.”
5. Her style is unapologetic
That star is fast becoming a style icon, and she’s never been afraid to push the boundaries with her fashion choices. She also lends her name to brands that have values she believes in. She’s the face of Libre, the fragrance by Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, and she says she chose to work with the brand “because of its fearlessness”.
“I stand for not compromising on who you are, what you do and what you believe in, of always being proud of the things you put your name to, and I feel that goes down very well with the philosophy behind Yves Saint Laurent,” she told MiNDFOOD.
