Five Minutes With… Natasha Oakley

Veet ambassador, model and swimwear designer Natasha Oakley talks to MiNDFOOD about picking the perfect bikini and her new initiative promoting a positive body image among women.

Australians are hot right now in the US. How long have you been there and how do you find the beaches compared to Australia?
It’s no secret that Americans love Aussies. I have lived in the US collectively for six years, between Miami, Hawaii and California. The US definitely has some great beaches but its hard to beat Australia’s beaches, we are definitely a little bit spoilt.

What do you see as the top bikini trends for the season?
Definitely Neoprene, zips, mesh panelling and the newest trend I noticed at Miami Swim Week were really stylish rashies! I think we’ll definitely be seeing this trend on Sydney’s beaches this coming summer with us Aussies being so conscious of sun protection.

What are your top tips when selecting a bikini?
Find what fits right, the size on the label is not always the best indication of whether your bikini is fitting right or not. Also follow our guide “Your body type, your bikini”

Tell us about A Bikini A Day. How are you using the site to present a positive body image to women?
A Bikini A Day has become so much more than the “bikini of the day” to not only Devin and I but to woman all over the world. We encourage women to embrace their natural curves and feel confident with their bikini body, the things that most women see as “imperfections” shouldn’t be see as so they are part of who we are and something we all have in common.

What do you miss most about Australia when you’re away?
I think Australia is definitely one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I am always a little bit homesick for the beaches of Sydney and Byron Bay (where we have a second home).

Tell us about your daily fitness routine.
We have just released our fitness series.
Where we have revealed our personal workouts for everyone to give it a go. I think working out is about finding something that you enjoy to keep active, I love being out doors and won’t punish myself if I want to have a day off. Being healthy is about balancing your lifestyle, physically and mentally.

Natasha is the ambassador of the new Veet Natural Inspirations range, a collection of divine smelling hair removal solutions for your face and body, infused with ingredients such as she butter and aloe vera.
