Lage blaze erupts at Sydney’s Barangaroo site
A large fire has broken out at Sydney's Barangaroo at the northern end of the CBD, enveloping the city in smoke.

Firefighters were called to the Hickson Road site after a blaze broke out in the basement of one of the buildings under construction at around 2pm today.

Smoke was seen billowing from the site, up to hundreds of metres up in the air, enveloping the CBD in a thick grey smog.

All workers have been evacuated and no injuries have been reported, according to Fire and Rescue NSW.

Nearby building have also been evacuated amid fears of the crane collapsing, including the entire KPMG office building.

The smoke has closed the Sydney Harbor Expressway, causing heavy traffic delays across the Harbour and Anzac Bridges.

The site is currently under development by Lend Lease, with a casino in the works by billionaire James Packer.

This isn’t the first time Barangaroo has made the headlines this year; in January, a man fell to his death off one of the site’s buildings.

Investigations are still underway as to possible causes for the fire.
