Say you stumble across a musician in a quaint alley in Europe or in a major town square in Africa, are swept away by their performance but leave never knowing who or where you can find them again. Fear not, online platform StreetMusicMap can help.
Street Music Map is a project that epitomises the web collaboration movement that is being adopted by businesses, this time used to facilitate a sense of community on a global scale.
The platform uses social media as a tool to connect audiences and street musicians. Anyone can record 15 secs of footage of their favourite musician and share it either by email directly to Street Music Map or share and tag on social media with #streetmusicmap. Then the collaboration begins, the artist or public can include information about the artist, their whereabouts, or where they can buy their music.
The founders hope that the platform will allow musicians and filmmakers exposure to scouts and occasions to make connections with captive audiences or business opportunities. When we looked at the interactive map there were more than 850 pins dropped worldwide where you could find street music.
