It’s 1955 and 15-year-old John Lennon (Aaron Johnson) is a truant, lewd and unfocussed – his teachers say he is “going nowhere”. That is, until he discovers the wonders of rock’n’roll. Running parallel to Lennon’s musical journey – which involves meeting Paul McCartney (Thomas Sangster) and George Harrison – is the family chasm between himself, his free-spirited mother (Anne-Marie Duff) and his aunt Mimi who raised him (Kristin Scott Thomas). Nowhere Boy is the feature-length film debut for Sam Taylor-Wood.
