This time of year rugging up in cosy wardrobe pieces makes us feel ever-so-slightly better about the long winter ahead.
As the temperature drops we’re jumping into the trend that’s been huge over the northern winter: fuzzy shearling garments and accessories.
Shearling is sheepskin where the wool has been trimmed to a soft, uniform length, and while usually kept to the inside of garments, has been providing a luxe ‘teddy’ feel to the outside of fashion and accessories this season. If you’re looking for a vegan option, there are plenty of faux options to choose from too.

The trend meshes well with the current popularity of slouchy oversized aviator-style flight jackets, traditionally lined with shearling to keep pilots warm.
Internationally there’s been a big swing to coats with textural finishing, and shearling is right up there, being worn by crowds of guests at Copenhagen Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.
While shearling can look edgy and cool, the fluffy collars and dramatic sleeve trimmings of long 70s-style ‘Penny Lane’ coats, where the shearling is shaggy and un-clipped, offer a more glamourous option for wrapping up warm. We particularly love how they instantly upgrade a low key outfit to something party-ready in seconds, perfect if you’re heading to an outdoor event.

However we’re also loving more streamlined and chic approaches too, proving the textile is for everyone.
If you don’t want to wear it on your body, soft and slouchy handbags abound, with even the top fashion houses getting on board.
If you simply want an inviting interior to curl up in, similarly textured boucle textiles are still in favour in design. Embrace the look with a rug, ottoman or overstuffed armchair.
