While known to the world as ‘Her Majesty’, the Queen was simply ‘Grannie’ to her eight grandchildren, with whom she held special bonds with.
“I knew this day would come, but it will be some time before the reality of life without Grannie will truly feel real,” shared William, the Prince of Wales upon her death.
“She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life.”
Princess Beatrice, daughter of Prince Philip and Sarah Ferguson, also had a tight-knit relationship with her grandmother.
For her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, she wore a vintage ivory dress by Norman Hartnell that was worn by the Queen in 1966 to open parliament.
In 2021, Beatrice welcomed her first child – and the Queen’s 12th great-grandchild – naming her Sienna Elizabeth, in a tribute to her grandmother.
The Queen’s grandson Harry, the Duke of Sussex, also paid tribute to his grandmother in naming his second child, Lilibet Diana.
