False alarm prompts panic at Paris gathering

Hundreds of people have fled in panic from a gathering at the Place de la Republique in Paris.

Families were paying tribute to the 132 victims with a moving gathering when screams broke out and a stampede of mourners fled the scene.

People thought they heard gunfire, but it was confirmed to be a false alarm with nervous Parisians reacting to the sound of fireworks – reported to be a prank.

Live news broadcast shows dozens of people running away from the scene in terror as people reported hearing shooting.

This comes as the world reacts to the events in Paris on November 13 which saw 132 killed and more than 300 injured.
