Everything you need to know about Zadig & Voltaire

Everything you need to know about Zadig & Voltaire

The cool kids of Parisian fashion, Zadig & Voltaire, have made their Kiwi debut, arriving in two covetable bottles: This is Her! and This is Him! We caught up with Giona Zen, the international marketing director Zadig & Voltaire Parfums, on his recent trip to New Zealand to find out all about the fragrances and the fashion.

The brand was named after a French icon

According to Zen, Zadig & Voltaire pays homage to French philosopher and writer, Voltaire. “Zadig was one of Voltaire’s characters. He was a revolutionary, he was all for telling people to be themselves. Zadig and Voltaire captures this same free spirit and individuality,” he explains.

Fashion is in the blood

When Zadig & Voltaire’s founder, Thierry Gillier, launched the brand almost twenty years ago, it probably came as little surprise to his family: Gillier is the grandson of  Andre Gillier, the co-founder of iconic French fashion house, Lacoste.”Gillier grew up in a textile family,” says Zen. “He moved to New York and attended Parsons School of Design.”

Zadig & Voltaire synonymous with cool

Ever wondered how Parisians always manage to look so cool? A wardrobe full of Zadig & Voltaire may have something to do with it. “When you wear the clothes, you feel cool, but it’s an easy cool” says Zen. “They say that a Zadig woman and a Zadig man are effortless,” he explains. Think subtle detailing, a touch of leather, ripped denim, and slouchy tees.

The fragrances are addictive

While we won’t be able to get our hands on the rock ‘n’ roll-inspired garments without hopping in a plane, a spritz of This is Her! and This is Him! are destined to have the same effect. The team behind the fragrant duo turned to short formulas and exquisite raw materials to create the scents. “We wanted to create two addictive fragrances,” says Zen. Bot feminine and masculine scents sit atop enchanting sandalwood base notes, while creamy notes of chestnut and vanilla in This is Her! and smoky incense and vanilla in This is Him! make the pair hard to resist.

Zadig & Voltaire This is Her and This is Him are available nationwide now. You can click here to enter to win an incredible Zadig & Voltaire prize pack.
