Cleansing has received a lot of attention in the beauty world of late. From double cleansing to avoiding cleansing full stop, what was once considered the simplest step in any skincare routine has become somewhat complicated. We decided to chat with Kerrie Moore, Dr. LeWinn’s National Training Manager, and get back to basics where cleansing our skin is concerned.
Do you really need a cleanser?
Cleansing in the morning helps to remove excess oils and bacteria whereas cleansing in the evening is also essential in the evening to remove any environmental impurities, excess oil and makeup. Cleansing twice a day with the correct cleanser for your skin type will keep your skin fresh, soft and smooth as well as prevent the pores from becoming blocked which in turn, causes pimples and blackheads.
Why is it important to select the right cleanser?
Preparing the skin by using the correct cleanser will ensure that your skin sees the best results from other skincare products such as serums and moisturisers. The right cleanser will leave the skin feeling comfortable, fresh and clean. It should never strip the skin of natural oils which is there for protection.
How do you choose the correct cleanser for your skin?
If you have dry skin, a nourishing cream cleanser will leave the skin feeling comfortable and hydrated. Whereas a combination/oily skin type benefits from a wash or foaming cleanser that helps remove excess oil leaving skin feeling fresh and clean. If you have sensitive skin, you should be using a fragrance-free formulation that is gentle enough to daily use.
