The release date for Outlander season 6 has finally been announced! Fans can tune in to the first episode on 6 March 2022, author Diana Gabaldon confirmed on 22 November upon the release of the ninth book in the series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.
Ahead of the release, STARZ has shared a clip from Outlander season 6. “Sometimes, I think you’re an angel,” Jamie tells Claire, before reaching out to kissed her hand.
After the emotional and shocking end to season 5, Claire and Jamie will return to face “new challenges, adversaries and adventures in season six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World,” said Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht.

Speaking to CheatSheet, star Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) opened up about the challenges of filming Outlander season 6. “I think shooting through a Scottish winter during a pandemic, it was weird. We would go to work, especially at the start, and we didn’t know what was going to happen. I’d just finished a movie in London which had similar protocols. But to be in Scotland and to see no one on the roads driving to work — and just to be in this world where it felt like we were the only people at work — it was kind of crazy.”
Heaughan added that while difficult, he’s happy with how the sixth season has turned out. “I’m really pleased with this season. It feels almost like early western vibe. And, you know, we’re building to the War of Independence. Obviously, there’s time travel as well and all the other elements. It feels like a small but mighty season.”
Caitriona Balfe will return as Claire Randall Fraser, along with Richard Rankin (Roger Wakefield) and Sophie Skelton (Brianna Randall). A mysterious new character who is “not so new to Jamie” will make an appearance. “Tom Christie is one of Jamie’s ancient foes. He comes to Fraser’s Ridge and tries to take a bit of power actually. So there’s a bit of power play and his daughter becomes a very, very special part of this story. I can’t give away more,” Heughan told The Express.

In October, photos from the set of Outlander season 6 were released, revealing some of the new characters as well as old favourites. There will be 8 episodes in season six, two episodes less than the usual 10.
