Emma Thompson cast as Miss Trunchbull in new Matilda movie
The iconic British actress will be taking on the headmistress role in the new film adaptation of 'Matilda the Musical'

Dame Emma Thompson has been cast as Miss Agatha Trunchbull in the upcoming Matilda musical movie.

The Netflix adaptation is based on the hit Matilda the Musical, a West End version of the iconic Roald Dahl book about a talented young girl stuck in a horrible family.

Thompson, in her role as the terrifying headmistress, joins young Alisha Weir as Matilda and Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey.

The musical movie comes almost three decades after the 1996 Matilda film, and promises to be an “imaginative and fresh retelling” of the popular children’s story.

This won’t be the first time we’ve seen Emma Thompson demonstrate her singing talents. She showed off her pipes in her role as Mrs Potts in the 2017 Beauty and the Beast film.

The film is expected to release in December 2022
